You can plan a ride at any time within the schedule; however, we request that you make reservations 24 hours in advance for local trips and 72 hours in advance for out-of-county trips. Making advance reservations is necessary so we can accommodate as many requests as possible.

Linking People with their Communities

Enhancing access to Tennessee’s non-urbanized areas and connecting thousands of people to jobs, schools and other destinations, the Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency (MCHRA) Public Transit serves as a vital function in meeting the mobility needs of thousands of people. As a mass public transportation service, it provides a basic level of rural mobility to those who depend on some form of public transportation.

MCHRA Public Transit provides rural mass public transportation service to 12 counties. MCHRA is proud to have a 80 percent accessible fleet. As an additional service to people with a greater economic need, organizations contract with MCHRA Public Transit to subsidize the cost of rides.

Background and History

Originally, MCHRA Public Transit was the Senior Citizens Transit System, serving people age 60 or older. Today, it is a full-fledged mass public transit system with a strong commitment to senior citizens and people with disabilities. MCHRA is proud to have a 80 percent accessible fleet.

Eligibility

Public service is available to anyone regardless of age or income on a first-call, first-served basis. Priority is given for medical appointments.

MCHRA Public Transit is the broker for the Jobs Access Program in the Mid-Cumberland Region of Tennessee. This program is for low-income or Welfare-to-Work clients to gain access to transportation for employment.

Access to Jobs

MCHRA’s Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) program is called “Access to Jobs”, this program provides free transportation to/from work or work related activities for eligible individuals within our region, meeting the low-income guidelines.

Interested applicants may pick up and submit applications at any of our twelve (12) local offices; they may also request Access to Jobs applications by fax, email, or U.S. mail. Once approved for Access to Jobs, riders are either placed into our program or onto the waiting list, depending on the counties current abilities and our current JARC funds available.

Funding Partners

The MCHRA Public Transit has successfully integrated funding under the belief that coordination is cost-effective and efficient. MCHRA Public Transit utilizes Section 5311 of the Urban Mass Transit Act, Title III-B of the Older Americans Act, and other funds as available through the Tennessee Department of Transportation as its three major funding sources. Funding is also received through contracts with TennCare and other agencies within our region.

Our Access to Jobs Program is funded by the Federal Transit Administration and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
