MCHRA Public Transit is the mass public transportation service of The Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency. Service is provided by 103+ vehicles in the 12 county Mid-Cumberland region. Originally, MCHRA Public Transit was the 60+ Senior Citizens Transit System. It has since developed into a full-fledged mass public transit system. However, MCHRA Public Transit still emphasizes its commitment to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. MCHRA is proud to have an 80% accessible fleet.
Rides can be scheduled at any time as schedule permits, however we do request that reservations are made 24 hours in advance for local trips and 72 hours in advance for out of county trips, this helps us to insure that we can work your trips into our schedule. If we are unable to work your trip into our schedule for a certain date or time, we will always try to schedule you for another date or time, if possible.
A ride on MCHRA Public Transit is an absolute bargain when compared to the cost of driving, insuring, maintaining and parking one's own vehicle. As an extra service to the people with a greater economic need, various agencies and organizations contract with MCHRA Public Transit to subsidize the cost of a ride.
MCHRA Public Transit is the broker for the Jobs Access Program in the Mid-Cumberland Region of Tennessee. These programs are for low-income or Welfare-to-Work clients to gain access to transportation for employment.
Public service is available to anyone regardless of age or income on a first-call, first-served basis.
MCHRA Public Transit has successfully integrated funding under the belief that coordination is cost-effective and efficient. The RTS utilizes Section 5311 of the Urban Mass Transit Act, Title III-B of the Older Americans Act, and other funds as available through the Tennessee Department of Transportation as its three major funding sources. Funding is also received through contracts with TennCare and other agencies within our region.
Our Access to Jobs Program is funded by the Federal Transit Administration, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
